Salford to Receive a Complete Upheaval in the Chapel Street Area

29 January 2010

The city of Salford is about to witness its largest restructuring plan going to floor after receiving approval from the planning authorities.

The restructuring scheduled at the Chapel Street corridor will cost around £650m and cover a huge area housing two hotels, entertainment places, more than eight hundred homes as well as thousands of square meters of retail and shared office space area. It also incorporates a European style piazza to be situated across the Salford Cathedral.

The scheme is being financed by Central Salford Urban Regeneration Company in collaboration with the English Cities Fund and is the result of creative genius of Chris Farrow, who is better known as the mind behind Albert Dock regeneration in London.

The plan extends to enhancement of a number of parks including Islington Park area and the cathedral gardens, which is proposed to be opened for public access as well as development of areas like St. Phillip’s Church and Bexley Square conservation area.

According to the Chief executive of the Central Salford Urban Regeneration Company, Chris Farrow, the approval comes as an opportunity for the company to revive a prime location of the city with the cooperation of public and private players as well as involvement of the community. He also added that the plan would not only give life to one of the city centres but also highlight the natural and historical aspects of the Chapel Street Area.
